Layer 1: Era Anchor

January 2022. The Saudi Arabian desert. 8,375 kilometers.

Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body lined up for the 44th Dakar Rally in their Land Cruiser 200 Series — a vehicle that had competed in, and won, the Production Car Category for nine consecutive years. It was also the last time the 200 Series would compete. The 300 Series was ready. This was a farewell run.

They won. Nine in a row.

Casio had been supplying instruments to the team for years. For the 2022 edition, they produced the GWG-2000TLC-1AJR — the first limited edition Mudmaster GWG-2000 ever released. The watch was released in Japan in January 2022, at 110,000 yen, timed to the race.

There is no international version. There is no second edition of this exact configuration. The Land Cruiser 300 Series competes now. The 200 Series' last race is already history.

Layer 2: Object Biography

Reference: GWG-2000TLC-1AJR. Released Japan, January 2022. Retail: 110,000 JPY.

Case: Carbon Core Guard construction — carbon fiber reinforced resin at the shock-absorbing layer, forged carbon components on the bezel. This is not decorative carbon. It is structural.

Casio Module 5678. Functions: Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6 atomic radio sync, Triple Sensor Ver.3 (compass, barometric pressure, temperature), 200m water resistance, mud and dust resistance.

Case dimensions: 54.4 × 54.4 × 16.1 mm.

Design: The band carries a camo-like mud and sand splatter pattern — the desert surface after a full stage run. The blue accents replicate Team Land Cruiser's racing livery (blue, white, red). The Team Land Cruiser logo appears on the band and caseback.

This is the design language of a working vehicle, translated into a watch. The desert is printed on the strap.

Layer 3: Collector Connection

Two fandoms converged on this watch simultaneously.

The Land Cruiser community is global, generational, and tribal in a way that few automotive communities match. LC ownership is not casual. People rebuild 40-series frames. They modify 70-series for terrain they will actually cross. They know the 200 Series by its production years (2007-2021) and they track what the 300 Series changed and what it didn't.

The G-Shock community knows Mudmaster as the working instrument of the Master of G land series — not a fashion statement, a tool with a specific heritage.

Both communities found the GWG-2000TLC before the watch world did.

This is the first GWG-2000 limited edition ever made. The watch that marked the end of nine consecutive Dakar victories for a vehicle beloved on six continents.

What other limited collabs sit at the intersection of two completely separate collector communities?
